2-Day Frontier Trek: From Monteviasco to Monte Tamaro
Guiddy Difficulty Levels
Intermediate Plus
Description
An intense and spectacular two-day trek through Val Veddasca, Monte Pola, Monte Gradiccioli, and Monte Tamaro, along one of the most scenic ridges in the Lugano Prealps, suspended between Italy and Switzerland. Together with Guidders, we will set off from Ponte di Piero, tackling the famous 1,400 steps of Monteviasco—an ancient mule track that leads to one of the most authentic car-free villages in the Lombardy mountains, steeped in history. After crossing through forests and ancient trails, we will reach Capanna Merigetto, where we will spend the night cooking and sharing the magic of the mountains. The second day will offer a completely different landscape: we will climb to Monte Pola, the highest peak in the province of Varese, and then follow a spectacular border ridge between Ticino and Lombardy all the way to Monte Tamaro, traversing open terrain with endless views of the alpine valleys. A trek with character, for trained Guidders looking for a real challenge, history, and grand horizons.

What makes this excursion unique
This trek tells the story of the two souls of the Prealpine mountains: the historical and authentic side of Val Veddasca, with its mule tracks and villages suspended in time, and the more alpine side of the Ticino border ridges, where the view accompanies your every step. Sleeping in a mountain hut and crossing a long ridge between two countries makes this an intense, varied, and incredibly memorable experience.

Hi Guidders! 🧡 I'm Lia, a certified Hiking Guide. For me, hiking is more than just following a trail: it's a way to connect with places, people, and what's happening within ourselves. I love guiding people in nature, creating authentic experiences where the beauty of a panoramic view, the silence of a forest, or the light on a summit become cherished memories. On my hikes, I always strive to create connections and moments of wonder, because every step can tell a story. If you also feel the call of the wild… I'll see you on the trail with the Guidders community! 🥾🌿
