A hike to Cima Trosa in the Locarno area with views over Lake Maggiore

A true classic in the Locarno area, offering the scent of the mountains and lake views. Together with the Guidders, we’ll climb to Cima Trosa, a small panoramic peak nestled between Val Maggia and Val Verzasca, along a circular route brimming with stunning views, alpine huts and spectacular trails. From the summit, Lake Maggiore unfolds beneath us in all its beauty. An intense, fun and incredibly rewarding day.

We’ll set off from a small hamlet above Locarno, accessible by car, taking an easy dirt track that climbs towards Cardada. The route passes through ancient mountain pastures and historic huts, once frequented by skiers during the snowiest winters.

From Cardada, the route continues towards the scenic ridge leading to Cima Trosa. The path alternates between grassy sections and a few rockier stretches; whilst never technically challenging, these should be tackled with care. The final ascent offers an incredible view of the Ticino mountains and Lake Maggiore.

On the descent, we’ll head back towards Cardada for a stop at the famous panoramic footbridge suspended over the lake, perfect for memorable photos… and perhaps a beer at the refuge before heading back.
