Bivacco Zeb da Caiasco: A Wild Trek in the Upper Lario to a Mountain Shelter Suspended Between Stone and Sky

The Zeb da Caiasco Bivouac is one of those excursions that is not easily forgotten: long, intense, wild, and with that final arrival that truly feels like real mountain. We are above Dosso del Liro, in the Upper Lake Como area, along one of the most fascinating stretches of the Alta Via del Lario, where the famous Zeb Bivouac stands, built in 2018 by CAI Dongo in memory of Flavio Muschialli. The bivouac is located near the Avert di Muggiolo, at about 1,980–2,011 m, and is always open with 8 beds.

The departure from Caiasco immediately sets the tone for the day: you enter a secluded valley, where the trail climbs between cart tracks, paths, alpine pastures, and crossings of the Liro stream. Then, as you ascend, the landscape changes: less forest, more high-altitude pastures, more silence, more horizon. In the upper part, the path rises sharply on the steep slope that leads to the bivouac, with a tiring but truly super rewarding finale.

The beauty of the Zeb Bivouac is not only the destination, but the whole sensation of the journey: a progressive ascent into an isolated and authentic environment, until reaching a modern and minimalist structure set between stone, grass, and sky.
