Passo dei Campelli in winter: the snowy basin from Schilpario
Guiddy Difficulty Levels
Intermediate Plus
Description
The Conca dei Campelli when it is all white
A spectacular winter hike in the heart of Val di Scalve, discovering the Conca dei Campelli, one of the most captivating corners of the so-called Scalve Dolomites. In winter the basin changes completely: white fills the pastures and the dolomite walls stand out even more sharply.
Starting just above Schilpario, near the cross-country ski tracks, the trail heads straight into the woods and climbs steadily among firs and larches. The ascent is gradual and lets you ease into the winter setting.
From Passo dei Campelli, a viewpoint straddling Val di Scalve and Val Camonica, we climb Monte Campioncino and then drop to Rifugio Campione (1,945 m) for lunch. Fourteen kilometres and 1,000 metres of ascent.
Why come
- the Conca dei Campelli under snow
- Passo dei Campelli, between Val di Scalve and Val Camonica
- the summit of Monte Campioncino in its winter version
- lunch at Rifugio Campione at 1,945 metres
Who it suits
This is an intermediate hike: a thousand metres of ascent over fourteen kilometres. In winter the ground can be snowy or icy: microspikes recommended and high boots. Parking at the Fondi di Schilpario charges a fee.
