2916 meters right under the south face of the Marmolada. If you're after real mountain vibes, this is it.
We set off with the Guidders from Malga Ciapela and head straight into Val Ombretta, one of the wildest and most beautiful valleys in the Dolomites. The trail climbs through the woods, opens up at the meadows of Malga Ombretta and continues to Rifugio Falier, open only in summer, with the south face of the Marmolada towering above us the whole way. From there the path gets wilder: scree and rocky ground lead to the final steeper stretch up to Cima Ombrettola, at 2916 meters. It's an out-and-back route: same way up and down, and on the descent we take our time enjoying everything we just climbed through.
We're standing right below the south face of the Marmolada, the wall climbed by some of the greatest alpinists in history: seeing it from here, up close, still gives you chills.

Who it's for
You'll need good stamina and some hiking experience: it's a long climb and the last stretch gets steeper. No technical gear or climbing skills needed.

I am a certified International Mountain Leader (accredited by the Veneto Mountain Guide Association and UIMLA), a graduate in Sports Science, a mountain bike guide, and—believe it or not—a sommelier! After all, there’s nothing like a good glass of wine after a long hike. I love experiencing the mountains in every way possible: from trekking and trail running to mountain bike adventures.
