Cimon della Bagozza: a loop in the Scalve Dolomites

Description
A Dolomite loop in Val di Scalve
A route combining the beauty of Val di Scalve with a Dolomite challenge. We start from Rifugio Cimon della Bagozza, crossing the Conca dei Campelli, one of the most characteristic settings of the so-called Scalve Dolomites.
The climb turns demanding straight away: we tackle the steep scree of the north side up to Passo delle Ortiche, a stretch calling for maximum care because of the loose ground. The reward comes at the top: from Cimon della Bagozza (2,407 m) the view turns full circle over the Orobie and the Adamello.
The descent continues at altitude to Passo di Valzellazzo, where the modern Bivacco Don Giulio Corini stands, and from there the loop closes back at the start. Ten kilometres and 1,000 metres of ascent.
Why come
- Cimon della Bagozza, the symbol peak of the Scalve Dolomites
- the Conca dei Campelli, a setting unique to Val di Scalve
- Bivacco Don Giulio Corini at Passo di Valzellazzo
- a genuine loop, never retracing your steps
Who it suits
This is a hard hike: 1,000 metres of ascent with a steep scree slope on loose ground where a sure step and care are needed. Not suitable for beginners. Bring sturdy boots, poles, a helmet (recommended) and a windproof jacket.
Come with the Guidders: book your place and let's climb the Cimon.
