Circuit of Palmaria Island

A trek suspended between sea and rock in the heart of the Gulf of Poets, opposite Portovenere (SP). With the Guidders, we will land at Terrizzo to follow CAI trail 510 around the perimeter of Palmaria Island: cliffs plunging into the sea, holm oak woods, old quarries, and views of Tino Island, Torre Scola, and the Apuan Alps. The trail alternates peaceful stretches with steep climbs, easy rocky sections, and a few exposed passages; near Pozzale we will also find a short section equipped with fixed ropes. An excursion for those with a good fitness level who want to discover the wildest side of Palmaria, step by step and with sea views all the way.

What makes this excursion unique

Here the sea is not simply a backdrop: it accompanies almost the entire excursion. From the island’s elevation of about 200 meters, the route descends to coves, quarries, and cliffs, revealing the Gulf of Poets from ever-changing perspectives. The counterclockwise circuit also makes it possible to tackle the two steepest sections mostly uphill, making the route more enjoyable and interesting.
