Croix de Bouque: the Popes' trail through Introd's woods
Guiddy Difficulty Levels
Easy Plus
Description
A cross on a rocky spur, with Monte Rosa and Mont Blanc facing each other ahead.
We set off with the Guidders from Les Combes, into the protective forest of spruce and larch trees that the Popes knew well: here John Paul II and Benedict XVI spent their summers, so much so that among the locals this is still known as "the Popes' path." The start is a sharp climb that immediately makes it clear that today we're climbing for real, then the pace eases and we walk among switchbacks through the woods. The route is a loop, and before heading back down we pass through a slightly steeper descending section, just to keep you on your toes. This brings us to the Croix de Bouque, a scenic rocky spur with the votive cross, a stone altar, and a statue dedicated precisely to John Paul II.
4 reasons to come
- the scenic cross with views of Monte Rosa and Mont Blanc
- the Popes' path, a piece of real history

I'm a UIMLA Mountain Hiking Leader, specialized in snow-covered terrain, registered with the Aosta Valley Alpine Guides Association. I was born and raised here, and I've been exploring the mountains in all their forms since I was a child. I enjoy guiding all kinds of itineraries: from peaceful hikes focused on nature, wildlife and scenery, to more challenging routes. If you'd like, I can help you gradually step out of your comfort zone and reach goals you might not tackle on your own: a multi-day trek, a summit above 3000 metres, a snowshoe hike. I love quiet, uncrowded places. During hikes, I enjoy sharing the history, culture and unique features of the land I grew up in. Join me to enjoy the mountains at your own pace, one step at a time 🏔️ See you in the mountains!
