Epiphany Trek to the Riva-Girani Bivouac: A Panoramic Loop Hike at the Foot of the Grignone
Guiddy Difficulty Levels
Intermediate
Description
The Epiphany trek to the Riva-Girani Bivouac is the perfect way to start the year with an authentic adventure at the foot of the Grignone, the symbolic mountain of Valsassina. A day that smells of woods, open panoramas, Alpine tradition, and the pleasure of sharing lunch in a real bivouac together with the Guidders.
We are in Valsassina, between Balisio and Pasturo, a territory rich in pastures, alpine meadows, and forests that climb towards the Northern Grigna. From the parking lot of the Church of the Sacred Heart, the path immediately takes on its identity: a gentle climb through silent woods, bright clearings, and small mountain houses that seem to have come out of a winter tale.
We soon reach Alpe Cova, a poetic place with its tranquil lake and the huts resting under the Grignone. After a short stop at the nearby Rifugio Antonietta, we face the last stretch of the ascent: the path opens up and the Riva-Girani Bivouac appears from afar with its iconic red shutters, unmistakable and perfect for the ritual photo.
The arrival is pure magic: crisp air, a vast panorama over the Valsassina, and the pleasure of having lunch all together in an essential bivouac with a unique charm. A scene that encapsulates the spirit of the Epiphany: simplicity, sharing, and true nature.
The circular descent towards Canta Curtone and Cornisella completes the day among stone fountains, ancient mule tracks, and tranquil woods. A perfect ending for a trek that tastes of tradition, authenticity, and smiles shared with our community.
