Val Canè in autumn: Bivacco Valzaroten from Vione
Guiddy Difficulty Levels
Intermediate
Description
Golden larches and a bivouac at 2,250 metres
We climb into the coloured quiet of Val Camonica towards Bivacco Valzaroten, surrounded by the autumn foliage that sets the woods glowing. Val Canè is one of the most untouched side valleys in the area: few people, plenty of silence.
The hike starts on the valley floor, where larches already gold and orange begin to mix with the dark green of pines, chestnuts and firs, creating a natural carpet that crunches underfoot and smells of damp earth.
Higher up the woods give way to pastures and rock, as far as the bivouac at 2,250 metres, from where the view opens over the whole valley. It is 11 kilometres and 800 metres of ascent.
Why come
- larch foliage in a little-visited valley
- Bivacco Valzaroten and the view over the valley
- the contrast of golden larches, dark pines and chestnuts
- 800 metres of ascent in the finest season of the year
Who it suits
This is an intermediate hike: 800 metres of ascent over eleven kilometres, on a marked trail with no technical difficulty. Bring boots, water and a windproof jacket: at 2,250 metres in autumn it is cold.
