Griera Refuge: A Valvarrone Loop Hike Through Forests, Past Alpine Pastures, with Views of Mount Legnone
Guiddy Difficulty Levels
Intermediate Plus
Description
In the heart of Valvarrone, this loop trek starting from Alpe Gallina (Gallino Basso) is one of the most beautiful ways to reach the Griera Refuge and enjoy a panorama that “sweeps away” the fatigue: the view opens onto the peaks of the area and especially on the imposing profile of Monte Legnone, the absolute protagonist when you arrive at altitude.
The route alternates a climb in the woods with switchbacks (perfect for finding your rhythm), the passage in a more open environment between Fontana Fredda and Malga Alpe Campo, and the last stretch that leads to the refuge, where the break inevitably becomes a small Guidders celebration. The return closes the loop descending towards La Casniella, Bedoledo and Subiale, with a long descent that requires attention but gives that final satisfaction of a “complete day”.
It is an intermediate but concrete hike: real altitude difference, mountain paths and some sections where a sure foot is needed, especially if the ground is wet. Ideal from late spring to autumn, when the pastures are alive and the days are long. If you are looking for a trek in Valvarrone with a refuge, woods, pastures and views, this is a great classic to put on your list. With the Guidders, even more so.
