Halloween on the Resegone: from Morterone to Rifugio Azzoni, a costume dinner, a night on the summit and sunrise

We spend Halloween night on top of the Resegone. We climb with the Guidders from Morterone, the smallest village in Italy, to Rifugio Azzoni, right on the summit at 1,875 metres. We watch the sunset over Lake Como, then a Halloween costume dinner all together and a night at the hut. Next morning, All Saints' Day, sunrise from the summit.

Day 1

We meet in Morterone in the early afternoon and climb the easiest path, through woods and meadows, without going along the ridges: no exposed sections, just a steady climb with the Brianza and the lake opening up below. We reach the Azzoni in time for sunset from Punta Cermenati. Then dinner, and it's a party: we give everyone a Halloween gadget, and anyone who wants can bring something to dress up, even just a hat or a mask. After dinner, a short walk outside with headlamps.

Day 2

An early start for sunrise on the summit, with the Alps lighting up one after another, from Monte Rosa to the Grigne. Breakfast at the hut and back down to Morterone in the late morning.

Good to know

Dinner, the night at the hut and breakfast are included. Drinks are paid at the hut. Bring a sleeping-bag liner, a headlamp, warm clothes for the evening and something to dress up in. Sunday 1 November is a holiday: no rush getting home.
