"Hike to the Allievi-Bonacossa Refuge in Val di Mello"
Guiddy Difficulty Levels
Difficult
Description
This excursion leads into the wild heart of Val di Mello, up to the Allievi-Bonacossa Refuge, along the famous Sentiero Roma trail that winds through granite walls, crystal-clear streams and alpine side valleys.
The starting point is San Martino, initially crossing Val di Mello on gentle terrain through fir and larch trees, accompanied by the murmur of the Masino stream.
The route ascends towards Val Zocca: after the high-altitude huts and mountain dairies, the path becomes steeper and more challenging, running alongside rocky slabs, exposed sections and fords over bridges. In the final stretch, after crossing a small gully, you reach the large area of the refuge, framed by the peaks of Val di Zocca.
The panorama opens onto majestic Alps, granite towers and deep valleys: it's the perfect time for a break, refreshment and contemplation.
The return follows the same route as the ascent, offering new perspectives on the forest, the valley, and the descent allows you to fully appreciate the beauty of the landscape as it descends towards the valley.
