Lago Angeloga: a hike from Fraciscio in Valchiavenna

A trek with the flavour of a real day in the mountains: we climb into Val San Giacomo, above Fraciscio and Campodolcino, up to Lago Angeloga, one of the best-loved basins in Valchiavenna. The lake opens up suddenly at the foot of Pizzo Stella, with Rifugio Chiavenna right beside it.

The trail is alpine and gives nothing away: around 600 metres of ascent in just six kilometres, steep in places and on stony, stepped ground. Some training and care are needed where it is damp or uneven, but the route is always marked and there are no technical difficulties.

At the top the lake, Rifugio Chiavenna and the silence of the basin are waiting: a solid hike, the kind you remember, walked at the right pace to enjoy the view and the company.

Who it suits

This is an intermediate hike: few kilometres but 600 concentrated metres of ascent, on stony, stepped ground. Bring boots with a good sole and take care where the ground is damp. Poles are recommended for the descent.
