Lake Darengo, from Livo to the Como Hut, through woods and wild valley

An intense and spectacular trek through the heart of Val Darengo, along ancient mule tracks, through beech forests, past mountain huts and into increasingly wild landscapes, all the way to the magnificent Lake Darengo. Accompanied by the Guidders, we’ll make our way step by step towards one of the most enchanting corners of the Upper Lake Como region, up to the Capanna Como, perched on a hilltop overlooking the alpine waters. It’s hard work, yes, but well worth it for the views and the authentic mountain atmosphere. 

The trail initially follows the Via dei Monti Lariani before turning into the valley and crossing the picturesque Dangri Bridge. From here, a steeper ascent begins along a stepped mule track with several hairpin bends, leading up to the pastures of Baggio. The route continues past isolated mountain huts, a stream, small bridges and a beautiful beech forest, reaching Pianezza and Alpe Darengo. The landscape becomes increasingly alpine and open. The final stretch demands energy: a steep climb over scree and uneven terrain up to Lake Darengo, a splendid glacial basin nestled amongst the mountains, where the Capanna Como stands.
