Lake Lagazzuolo: A Spring Trek Through the Thawing Valmalenco, Where Silence Reigns

Spring in the mountains has a unique charm. The snow slowly begins to melt, the streams return to flow impetuously, and the woods of Valmalenco fill with light and fragrance. It is precisely during this period that trekking to Lago Lagazzuolo becomes an even more special experience.

We will start from San Giuseppe, one of the most authentic places in the valley, immediately crossing the Torrente Mallero, fed by the meltwater flowing down from the surrounding mountains. The path quickly enters the alpine forest, where larches and conifers begin to awaken after winter, while the ground still retains the moisture of the melted snow.

The ascent is constant and requires a good pace, but this is precisely what makes the hike so rewarding. As we gain altitude, the forest opens up, leaving space for increasingly wider views of the peaks of Valmalenco, often still partially snow-covered in spring.

Along the way, the change of season is clearly perceived: small streams cross the path, water flows everywhere, and the mountain environment slowly returns to life after the winter months.

Then, almost suddenly, it appears. Lago Lagazzuolo, nestled between rocks and larches, with its clear waters fed by the spring thaw. During this period, the lake has particularly intense colors, between turquoise and deep green, creating a truly evocative scenario.

Here we will stop for a break and for lunch, enjoying the silence of the high mountains and the unique atmosphere that only alpine lakes can offer.
