Pizzoni di Laveno: ridges and beech woods over Lake Maggiore
Guiddy Difficulty Levels
Easy
Description
Three twin summits above the blue of Lake Maggiore
A panoramic trek where the blue of Lake Maggiore meets the green of the Varese mountains. From Vararo, a small mountain village at 750 metres, we climb through fragrant beech woods to emerge on the ridge leading to the Pizzoni di Laveno: three twin summits standing like sentinels over the lake.
From the top the view stretches to Monte Rosa, the Swiss Alps and the Lombard hills. Continuing to Monte La Crocetta (1,180 m) we reach the most striking point of the route, where paragliders take off right in front of us.
The descent crosses a silent valley full of water: the small stream running through it offers perfect spots to cool off before the return. Eight kilometres and 390 metres of ascent: half a day, with a full day's view.
