This excursion is a real gem for Guidders who love to discover authentic and off-the-beaten-path locations. With our circular route, we will hike around the Vallone di San Giovanni, a little-known side valley of Valtellina, which is wild, intense, and surprising.
The valley is furrowed by the stream of the same name, which descends impetuously along the steep slopes of the mountain and divides the suggestive Costiera dei Cech almost in half. Here, water is the absolute protagonist: a precious resource, but also a force capable of shaping the territory and influencing the lives of the inhabitants.
Starting from the village of Traona, which will also be the arrival point of our loop, we will embark on a true journey through time. Along the way, we will discover how the Vallone has represented a fundamental wealth but also a constant threat over the centuries, between sudden floods, landslides, and stories passed down from generation to generation.
We will walk on historical paths, characteristic mule tracks, and sometimes even steep sections, which make the excursion dynamic and never trivial. Each passage tells a story: stories of rural life, of human ingenuity, and of a delicate balance between man and nature.
