Monte Guglielmo: the low traverse and Baita Palmarusso

A route that smells of real mountains, at the foot of Monte Guglielmo: open pastures, silent woods and views taking in Lake Iseo and the Orobie. We do not go to the summit but traverse the western flank halfway up — and that is exactly what makes it different from every other Guglielmo outing.

From Zone we follow a stretch of the ancient Via Valeriana, the road the Romans used to travel up the Sebino, to Passo Croce di Zone. Then Malga Aguina, Monte Agolo Tredici Piante with its sweep over the lake, and finally Baita Palmarusso for lunch.

The return passes the gnome trail, a stretch of woodland dotted with carved figures that children love. Seventeen kilometres and 1,050 metres of ascent: a long traverse but always manageable.

Who it suits

This is an intermediate hike for its length: 17 kilometres and 1,050 metres of ascent in seven hours, on wide, panoramic trails with no technical difficulty. You need to be used to full days. Parking in Zone charges a fee, by machine or scratch ticket.
