A 255-metre peak that scrambles your compass. How could you skip this one?
We set off with the Guidders from Montegrotto Terme on a loop trail that climbs straight into the woods of the Euganean Hills. The path gains height step by step, with a steeper descent section along the way that adds a little extra thrill. As we get closer to the top, the landscape shifts completely: latite rock ridges covered in prickly pears and agaves, a Mediterranean vibe you'd never expect here in the Veneto. At the top, the summit cross of Monte Ceva opens up a full 360° view over the whole Euganean ridge.
Here's the twist nobody sees coming: the rock up here is so rich in magnesite it bends compass needles nearly 20 degrees off true north. Bring one if you've got it — it really does go haywire.
