Description
This excursion takes us to discover a little-known and surprisingly wild corner of the Grigne mountains, far from the crowded routes but incredibly scenic. We will start from Lierna, overlooking Lake Como, and ascend towards Monte Cucco (1,432 m) following a varied, rewarding and never dull itinerary.
The ascent along the Calanca path is direct and determined: a steep route, with some slightly exposed sections, which immediately gives sensations of real mountain. Once at the Bocchetta di Lierna, a final effort will take us to the summit, where the panorama opens up spectacularly: in front of us the Grigne massif, below us Lake Como which frames everything with its reflections.
From the summit we will return to the Bocchetta to continue towards the Forcella dell’Alpe, crossing the Alpe di Lierna, among pastures and open views. The return will take place along a splendid variant of the Sentiero del Viandante, with a mandatory stop at the Alpe di Mezzedo and the Croce di Brentalone, two of the most panoramic natural balconies in the area.
