Monte Toro from Foppolo: panoramic ridges and Lago Moro in the upper Val Brembana
Guiddy Difficulty Levels
Difficult Plus
Description
A demanding, spectacular loop above Foppolo, for those who love ridges and want a full day in the upper Val Brembana.
The route
We set off with the Guidders from the Foppolo car park and climb into the basin of Lago Moro, a lake at 2,235 metres set among high pastures. From there we turn onto the south-west ridge of Monte Toro: the most beautiful and most demanding part of the loop, with a few rocky passages where hands are needed and an exposure that calls for a steady step.
On the summit, at 2,524 metres, the view sweeps 360 degrees over the Orobie: Corno Stella, Pizzo del Diavolo, Cima di Lemma and, on clear days, the Rhaetian Alps beyond the Valtellina. We descend along the south-east ridge past the Montebello lakes and close the loop in Foppolo.
Who it is for
- fit hikers with experience on steep, rocky ground
- people with no fear of heights: the ridge has exposed sections
- anyone looking for 1,100 metres of ascent rewarded by a real summit
- minimum age 16, accompanied
Good to know
Bring a packed lunch and at least a litre and a half of water: there are no refreshment points on the route. In autumn the ridge can be windy, so pack gloves and a warm layer. Car pooling is arranged in the outing's Telegram group.
