Mount Alben Winter Ascent (2,019m) – Ilaria Couloir

Classic winter ascent from Cornalba – Val Serina (Bergamasque Orobie)

The Ilaria Couloir on Mount Alben represents the most logical and safest choice for a winter ascent to the summit, effectively becoming the normal route on snow.

With stable snow cover, the Ilaria Couloir offers a more linear and continuous line, with sustained but regular slopes around 40°, interrupted by a short, steeper initial section that approaches 50°.

It is a direct climb, technical enough, requiring good management of progression on snow and attention to the evaluation of conditions, but which offers a feeling of rare mountaineering completeness in the Orobie.

We are in the heart of the Bergamasque Prealps, above Cornalba and Oltre il Colle, in an environment that alternates between woods, glacial basin and imposing rock faces. The exit onto the summit ridge and the arrival at the cross of Monte Alben reward every step.
