Description
In the heart of Stelvio National Park, there is a route that brings together everything a Guidder could wish for: sweeping views, history-rich trails, alpine lakes, and the spectacular backdrop of the most imposing mountains in Alta Valtellina.
The Cima Branca Loop starts from Presa Forni, at the foot of the famous Forni Glacier, and follows the ancient military mule track leading to Malga Forni, climbing through the wild Val Cedéc to the scenic Cima Branca (3,093 m). From here, the landscape opens up completely: the Ortles-Cevedale group dominates the horizon with glaciers, ridges, and peaks that seem to go on forever.
The descent leads to the beautiful Lago delle Rosole, a small alpine gem nestled among pastures and rocks, before completing the loop and heading back toward Forni. Along the way, it is easy to spot marmots, ibex, and, with a bit of luck, even golden eagles soaring over the high altitudes.
