Two natural balconies and the trails of the Cadorna Line

A hike combining postcard landscapes and traces of memory, along the panoramic ridges of the upper Lake Como area. The route leads to Monte Crocione and Monte di Tremezzo, two natural balconies above Lake Como, perfect for those who like walking with their eyes on the horizon.

From the summits the view ranges from the Grigne to the Legnone and out to the Alps. Along the ridges we come across the remains of the Cadorna Line fortifications, the defensive system built during the First World War: trenches and positions still where they were dug.

We start from the little church of Paullo, above Menaggio, and take on 19 kilometres and 1,350 metres of ascent over eight hours: a long day combining two summits and a panoramic traverse.

Who it suits

This is a hard hike for its length and ascent: 19 kilometres and 1,350 metres in eight hours, on open ridges where there is no shortage of wind. Good fitness required. Bring boots, poles, plenty of water and a windproof jacket.
