Description
The easiest way up Brescia's symbol mountain
Monte Guglielmo is the symbol mountain of the province of Brescia, and this is the easiest variant for reaching the great statue of the Redeemer at the top: a mule track that is simple to follow, with modest height gain and distance.
We start from Rifugio Croce di Marone, reached from Zone, and climb the mule track long used by local shepherds for their pastures. The route faces the sun, which makes it pleasant in autumn and winter too, when other peaks stay in shadow.
At the top, at 1,957 metres, the Redeemer statue looks over Val Trompia on one side and Lake Iseo on the other. It is 15 kilometres and 700 metres of ascent: numbers within reach of anyone who walks with some regularity.
Why come
- the Redeemer statue at the summit, symbol of the Brescia mountains
- the easiest route to reach it, on a mule track
- Lake Iseo and Val Trompia from the same summit
- a sunny route: it works well in autumn and winter too
Who it suits
This is an easy hike: 700 metres of ascent on a mule track, with no technical sections. Fine as a first outing at altitude. Bring boots, water and a windproof jacket: there is almost always wind at the top. The hut car park costs 5 euros a day, with a scratch ticket from the machine.
Come with the Guidders: book your place and let's walk up to the Redeemer.
