Mount Scermendone Loop
Guiddy Difficulty Levels
Difficult
Description
The Monte Scermendone loop is a circular route that offers a wonderful panorama of Monte Disgrazia and also of the Cengalo and Badile peaks, while looking south you can see the outline of Pizzo Coca in the Orobie Alps.
The mountain is formed by a long ridge that extends from Southwest to Northeast; both sides are rich in evergreens, while the ridge just above 2000 meters is mainly grassy.
With the Guidders we will set off from the road to Predarossa, heading towards the Alpe Granda Refuge. Once at the alpine pasture, we will leave the easy path and, climbing along a steep (unmarked) track, we will reach Pizzo Mercantelli. We will then follow a stretch of ridge until reaching Monte Scermendone, from which there is a spectacular, close-up view of Monte Disgrazia. From the summit we will descend towards the small church of San Quirico, passing by the small Scermendone lake (which is not the same-named lake located further ahead) and the Scermendone bivouac.
On the way back, we will cross the Preda Rossa valley as far as Sasso Bisolo along a faint track until we reach the old, interrupted road to Predarossa, following the stream of the same name. From here we will return to the cars, thus closing this beautiful loop.
