Two thousand three hundred metres, at Passo di Venano
Rifugio Nani Tagliaferri is the highest hut in the whole Orobie range: a gem set at 2,328 metres among wild valleys, alpine tarns and breathtaking views. It stands at Passo di Venano and is the natural link between Rifugio Curò and Passo del Vivione.
The climb from Ronco di Schilpario is demanding — 18 kilometres and 1,300 metres of ascent — but the route keeps delivering: the roaring Vò waterfall on the first stretch, flowering meadows, the whistles of marmots and, with a bit of luck, close encounters with roe deer.
Reaching the hut really feels like high mountains: from up there the Orobie appear from another perspective, and a hot lunch after the climb counts double.

Who it suits
This is a hard hike: 18 kilometres and 1,300 metres of ascent in eight hours. Good fitness and experience of long days are needed, but there are no technical sections. Bring sturdy boots, poles, plenty of water and a windproof jacket.
