Description
A romanesque abbey overlooking the lake, wrapped in golden chestnut woods.
We set off with the Guidders from Olgiasca and climb gently through woods and rocky ridges of the Olgiasca peninsula, with the lake opening up at every clearing. It's an out-and-back route: you walk through chestnut forests, with a few gentle ups and downs that keep things lively without ever tiring you out. We pass near the Crottino restaurant before climbing up to the village, and further on we walk by a small votive grotto that anticipates our destination: the Piona Abbey, a gem of Lombard Romanesque art with its chapel among the olive trees.
On the peninsula you can still find traces of Castel Mirabei, a 14th-century fortification that once ruled this strip of land between the two arms of the lake.

Hi Guidders! 🧡 I'm Giulia, an environmental hiking guide: from the Marche originally, Lombard by adoption. I've always had a strong bond with nature and with walking, born among the hills and grown later among mountain trails. I love travelling and finding new routes, fascinated by a simple but extraordinary tool: our legs, able to take us almost anywhere with patience and stubbornness. For a long time I mostly walked alone. Then I discovered how good it is to share the wonder of a view and the feelings of a trail with other people — and that's why I do this job today.
