Sentiero Liguria: from Moneglia to Bonassola above the sea
Guiddy Difficulty Levels
Difficult
Description
Seventeen kilometres high above the Ligurian sea
A spectacular trek along the Sentiero Liguria between Moneglia and Bonassola, passing above Deiva Marina and Framura. We walk through Mediterranean scrub, woods and views over the Ligurian sea, crossing one of the most authentic stretches of the eastern Riviera.
The route alternates continuous ups and downs — 1,300 metres of total ascent over 17 kilometres — with sections high above the sea, cultivated terraces and villages facing the water. This is the stretch of coast just before the Cinque Terre, less travelled and all the better for it.
It ends at Bonassola, where those who want can swim and we treat ourselves to a snack before heading back. The return is by train to Moneglia, with frequent departures: the ticket is not included.
Why come
- the Sentiero Liguria high above the sea, before the Cinque Terre
- views above Deiva Marina and Framura
- a final swim at Bonassola
- 1,300 metres of ascent: a real day out, not a stroll
Who it suits
This is a hard hike: 1,300 metres of total ascent on continuous ups and downs, with sun-exposed sections and little shade. Good fitness required. Bring walking shoes, plenty of water, a cap and a swimsuit. The train ticket for the return is not included.
