Description
When autumn lights up Valle delle Messi, this is the kind of day that makes you want to go right away. From Sant’Apollonia, above Ponte di Legno, we hike through golden larches, pastures and crisp air all the way to Passo di Pietra Rossa, almost 3,000 meters high.
It’s a long, demanding trek, and that’s exactly what makes it special. We start along the Frigidolfo, crossing woods, mountain huts and open pastures, passing near Rifugio Valmalza. Then autumn slowly stays below us: vegetation thins out and the landscape turns into scree, wide valleys and big mountains, up to the pass between Lombardy and Trentino.
