Pizzo Baciamorti: a loop from Val Taleggio

Description
A name born of frost, a view that warms you up
Pizzo Baciamorti (2,002 m) is a peak of the Bergamo pre-Alps, on the border between Val Taleggio and Valsassina. Its curious, poetic name seems to come from harsh winter conditions: frost and wind were so fierce that «baciamorti» — kissing the dead — evoked an icy kiss that burned the skin.
Today it offers far warmer feelings. From the summit a spectacular panorama opens: to the north the Bergamo valleys with the giants of the Orobie, to the south the Lombard plain, and on the clearest days even the Apennines and the profile of the Resegone.
We climb from the car park in Val Taleggio to Passo Baciamorti, where the first views appear, and from there along a gentle, panoramic ridge to the top. On the way back we stop at Rifugio Gherardi for lunch, when it is open, closing a loop of 12 kilometres and 930 metres of ascent.
