Pizzo Formico from Clusone: a thousand metres to the cross
Guiddy Difficulty Levels
Intermediate Plus
Description
The cross you see from all over the plateau, reached from below
The cross on Pizzo Formico is the queen of the Clusone plateau: always in view from below, and for that reason always irresistible. This is the climb that starts from the valley floor — 1,050 metres of ascent — far more demanding than the classic route from Monte Farno.
We start from La Spessa on a trail that gets straight to work, climbing through the woods to Rifugio San Lucio, a perfect balcony over Val Seriana. From here the route eases: we cross the Pianone and the long level stretch leading to Forcella Larga, the official entrance to the Conca della Montagnina.
The final ridge is simple and hugely panoramic: a few steps and the cross is there. On the way back we pass Roccolo Zuccone, where a local craftsman has filled the woods with wooden sculptures and curious characters: a surprise you do not see coming.
