Pizzo Spadolazzo 2,722 m from the Spluga Pass: loop between Lago Nero and Lago di Emet
Guiddy Difficulty Levels
Difficult Plus
Description
A high-altitude loop on the Swiss border, with two lakes, an easy ridge and the summit of Pizzo Spadolazzo at 2,722 metres, between Pizzo Tambò and Pizzo Emet.
The route
We set off with the Guidders from Rifugio Stuetta, a stone's throw from the Montespluga lake, and climb at a steady pace to Lago Nero, wedged between the rocks at 2,330 metres. From here the terrain changes: scree and grassy slopes lead us to the pass, where the valley of the Lago Ghiacciato suddenly opens up on the Swiss side.
A final ridge section, easy but to be taken with care, leads to the fore-summit and the cross of Pizzo Spadolazzo. The view runs over Pizzo Suretta, the Tambò and the glacial basins of the Grisons. We descend along the opposite ridge to Lago di Emet and Rifugio Bertacchi, then follow the Montespluga reservoir back to the cars.
Who it is for
- fit hikers with experience on rocky high-altitude terrain
- lovers of loops with lakes and ridges without technical passages
- anyone seeking a border panorama, between Lombardy and the Grisons
- minimum age 14, no dogs
