Red larches, a peat bog and a plate of pizzoccheri
A hike that looks straight off an autumn postcard. We are at 1,900 metres in the heart of Val Masino, surrounded by the warm colours of the foliage: blue sky, white summits and the red-orange of larches all turning at once.
On an easy loop we explore the whole Piana di Preda Rossa, a wide peat bog crossed by the stream running down from the Monte Disgrazia glacier. The landscape is broad and bright, perfect for autumn contrasts, and the route has no particular difficulty: seven kilometres with barely 300 metres of ascent.
Closing the day is the part that wins everyone over: lunch at Rifugio Scotti with a plate of pizzoccheri, the real Valtellina kind.

Who it suits
This is an easy hike: 300 metres of ascent over seven kilometres, on level ground with no difficulties. Suitable for everyone, children included. A daily pass is required at the entrance to Val Masino to reach the Preda Rossa car park: it is not included.
