Resegone from Lecco: the Valnegra gully from Versasio

Fifteen hundred metres from the lake to the summit

The Resegone is Lecco's symbol mountain, famous for the saw-toothed profile formed by its 14 summits, which look like the teeth of a great saw above Lake Como. This is the most direct and hardest way up: from the Lecco side, through the Valnegra gully.

We start from Versasio, on the edge of Lecco, and climb woodland trails to Capanna Ghislandi, the base from which the gully proper begins: a steep furrow running straight up to the ridge, the stretch that makes this route one for trained legs.

At the top, at Punta Cermenati (1,875 m), the highest of the group, stands the historic Rifugio Azzoni: from up there Lecco is a model town, the lake fans out and the Grigne stand opposite. Fifteen kilometres and 1,500 metres of ascent.

Who it suits

This is a hard hike: 1,500 metres of ascent in seven and a half hours, with a steep gully where a sure step and care on the ground are needed. Not suitable for beginners. Bring sturdy boots, poles and plenty of water.
