Road to 4000: Margherita Hut with an overnight stay at 4,554 meters

Capanna Margherita is THE destination, a dream for anyone wishing to discover the world of high altitudes: the highest mountain hut in Europe, located at 4,554 meters on Punta Gnifetti.

It is nestled in the glacial landscape of the highlands, on one of the highest peaks of the Monte Rosa Massif.

Reaching Capanna Margherita is a mountaineering experience, a challenge with yourself, and a guided journey to share with your rope team that you will remember forever. We will be accompanied by mountain guides who, in addition to providing equipment, will assist us in our adventure to ensure safety and teach us how to best use mountaineering gear on a glacier.

The itinerary spans three days. On the first day, we will head to Gressoney, where the lifts will take us over 3,200 meters to Punta Indren. Here our walk begins: we will cross what remains of the glacier and the characteristic rocky slabs to reach the Gnifetti Hut, where we will spend the night.

After refueling, as is the rule in a true mountain hut, we will go to bed early: the night at 3,600 meters will help us acclimatize, getting our bodies used to the altitude. The second day will start very early! Before dawn, we will have already had breakfast and prepared all our gear: tied together in a rope team, we will begin to ascend the labyrinthine Lys glacier, with our destination already visible ahead! A flat stretch, and in no time we will be climbing the final slopes to set foot at the long-desired Capanna Margherita! From here, you can see the whole world! After the customary photos (and a famous slice of Margherita pizza, why not?), we will prepare for the most exciting night of our lives: sleeping at 4,500 meters, above the clouds! The third day: after breakfast, we descend to Alagna, passing by the Cristo delle Vette and the Piramide Vincent, two prestigious 4,000-meter peaks of the Rosa massif, descending to Indren and then taking the lift down to Alagna.

Please note that each guide can accompany a maximum of 5 people. Should the excursion be canceled due to bad weather, an alternative date will be provided.
