Rifugio Rosalba: the Foppe trail in the Grignetta

Among the Grignetta spires, where Lecco climbing was born

We climb the lovely Sentiero delle Foppe, which leads from the Piani dei Resinelli to Rifugio Rosalba, in the heart of the Grignetta spires. This is the kingdom of dolomite towers where the Ragni di Lecco learned to climb: vertical walls, chimneys and pinnacles following one after another.

Surrounded by these walls and by views over Lake Como, we climb through woods, scree and easy equipped sections to the hut, set at 1,730 metres among the towers. The climb is of moderate difficulty but needs care: some passages are done with your hands.

At the hut we stop for lunch or a snack with the Grigne in view, then head back together and close the day with a final round at the Resinelli. Nine kilometres and 580 metres of ascent.

Who it suits

This is an intermediate hike: 580 metres of ascent with scree and easy equipped sections where a sure step and some comfort using your hands on rock are needed. Not suitable if you dislike heights. Bring boots with a good sole and light gloves.
