Scenic trekking in Val Formazza: from Frua Waterfall to Alpe Veglia and Lago Bianco

A spectacular trek in the heart of Alpe Veglia, one of the most enchanting spots in the Ossola valley. Accompanied by the Guidders, we’ll set off from Ponte Campo on a circular route brimming with wonders: the mighty Cascata della Frua waterfall, the tranquillity of Lago Bianco, vast alpine pastures and the Città di Arona mountain hut. A comprehensive, scenic and authentic hike, where the mountains reveal themselves in all their beauty.

We set off from the car park at Ponte Campo, in Val Formazza, with our first stop at the famous Cascata della Frua, one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the Lepontine Alps.

The route continues towards Alpe Veglia, passing through open alpine landscapes, sparse woods and pastures dominated by towering mountains. We’ll reach Lago Bianco, a high-altitude lake perfect for a panoramic stop.

Next, we’ll head to the Rifugio Città di Arona, an excellent base in the heart of the plateau, before completing the loop via the Cappella del Groppallo. A varied hike of medium difficulty, covering a good distance with an elevation gain that shouldn’t be underestimated.
