Description
Five hundred cirmolo pines planted by one man, in a forest now blazing with autumn colors.
We set off with the Guidders from San Giacomo, on Monte Baldo, and tackle the steepest stretch right away: the first kilometer climbs hard, then the pace eases among beeches and cirmolo pines glowing gold in this season. The route is a loop, and the climb takes us to 1767 meters before we descend on different slopes, with views opening onto Monte Altissimo. Along the way we pass near the Rifugio Graziani at Bocca del Creer, 1617 m — worth checking seasonal opening hours if you fancy a stop.
The trail's name comes from a real story: Augusto Girardelli, known as "the man of the cirmoli," planted five hundred of these pines in the late 1970s to reforest and protect the slope from avalanches. We're literally walking through his legacy.

Hello, I’m Luca Montagnoli, a certified Mid-Mountain Guide, and the mountains of Alto Garda and Tremosine are the place I have always called home. For me, the mountains are much more than just trails to hike—they are a journey shaped by nature, history, culture, and tradition. Every hike is a chance to slow down, take in the landscape from a new perspective, and discover the deep connection between the people and the land that makes this area so unique. I love guiding people through these places from the perspective of someone who lives here every day, sharing stories, local insights, and the little details that often go unnoticed by visitors. When I’m not guiding, I continue to enjoy the mountains as a hiker and climber, occasionally treating myself to a via ferrata adventure as well. I’ve always preferred a slow, mindful pace to the pursuit of speed—I believe the most beautiful views and the most genuine эмоotions are earned one step at a time.
