Snowshoe hike in Val di Rabbi among the mountain huts of Stelvio National Park

Val di Rabbi in winter, five alpine huts, one big snow loop, and views above 2,000 metres: if you want more than the usual winter walk, this is your day. We head into the heart of Stelvio National Park, through white woods, deep silence, and that changing mountain light that makes everything feel special.

We start from the Cavallar parking area and climb through larch forest switchbacks, snowy pastures, and wide open slopes. We pass Malga Terzolasa (also known as Artisè) at around 1,890 metres, then Malga Samocleva – Cespedè, and finally Caldesa Alta, the highest point of the hike. Up here we stop for the view over Val di Rabbi, then descend via Caldesa Bassa. In winter, we always check hut openings along the route, and we wrap up the day with a hot tea.
