Snowshoe Hike to Rifugio Scarpa: at the Foot of Mount Agner in the Agordo Dolomites
Guiddy Difficulty Levels
Easy
Description
Guidders, this time we’re heading into the heart of the Agordo Dolomites, at the foot of one of the most imposing and recognizable mountains in the province of Belluno: Mount Agner.
Our snowshoe hike to Rifugio Scarpa-Gurekian, at an altitude of 1,748 meters, will start from Frassenè Agordino, in the area of Voltago Agordino, not far from Agordo. Ahead of us lies about 5 km of ascent and 650 meters of elevation gain, following, depending on snow conditions, either CAI trail 771 or the easier access road to the refuge.
In its easiest variation and under favorable conditions, the route presents no particular technical difficulties, but the 650 meters of elevation gain on snow still require a decent level of fitness. We’ll ascend at a steady pace, gradually leaving the valley floor behind as we enter an increasingly alpine environment.
Our destination is Rifugio Scarpa, magnificently set beneath the Agner group: here, the effort gives way to the views and the satisfaction of having arrived together.
A perfect snowshoe hike for Guidders who want something more than a walk in the snow, without taking on a technically extreme route.
