Description
The route starts from the Parish of Marmora, beyond which the road is closed in winter. Pass to the left of the Church, following signs for Monte Festa and Costa Chiggia, along the road that leads to Colle Intersile. Follow it in a gentle ascent, cutting the hairpin bends where possible or directly tackling the slope immediately upstream of it. Pass downstream of the Grange del Crot, and continue to the right, in the direction of Monte Festa, clearly visible on the horizon. Before reaching Colle Intersile, leave the road and ascend without a fixed path into the sparse woods up to the summit of Monte Festa at 2130 m, the last few meters being a bit steeper. Now you can descend the north face of the summit, reaching the underlying saddle, where you resume the climb, faithfully following the wide and easy ridge towards Costa Chiggia at 2156 m. In about 30 minutes from Festa, you reach it, with an additional height gain of about 150 meters. From Costa Chiggia, continue on the ridge, slightly downhill and then again with the final climb to the slightly pronounced Monte Buch at 2112 m. Without a fixed path, start the descent in the direction of an underlying mountain pasture, where you intercept a cart track that continues halfway up the slope, rejoining the descent of the normal route of Costa Chiggia just upstream of the chapel of San Teodoro. From here, in a few minutes you reach the Grange Crot and conclude the circular route, just above the village of Parrocchia di Marmora.
