Monte Poieto at sunset: the Cornagera from Aviatico

A rock labyrinth and a sunset over two valleys

A panoramic, surprising trek a stone's throw from Bergamo, with the soul of a real mountain. From Aviatico we climb through woods and rock spires to the Cornagera: a natural labyrinth of towers, cracks and passages that look straight out of an adventure story.

The most enjoyable moment is the Büs de la Carolina, the striking canyon winding between the rock pillars: narrow, photogenic and suitable for everyone. Those who wish can also climb to the top of the Cornagera, fifteen minutes from the canyon.

From there we reach the summit of Monte Poieto, at 1,370 metres, where the view opens over Val Seriana and Val Brembana. At the hut we stop for a snack as the sun goes down, then close the loop along the trail beside the ski slopes. Six kilometres, 400 metres of ascent, three hours in total.

Who it suits

This is an easy hike: 400 metres of ascent over six kilometres, suitable for beginners and for those walking with children. We come back in the dusk: best to have a head torch in your pack, along with walking shoes and water.
