Sunset Hike to Monte Due Mani and the Locatelli Bivouac from Lecco: 1,000 m of Elevation Gain

There are hikes that put you to the test, and hikes that change your day just as the day is about to end. The trek to Monte Due Mani from Maggio di Cremeno, in Valsassina, at sunset does both.

We’ll set off from Maggio di Cremeno, in the province of Lecco, following the Grignoni trail through the woods, as the afternoon light filters through the trees and accompanies the group’s first steps. The climb is no joke, but that’s exactly what makes it so special: you gain elevation little by little, along steady trails, with ever wider views and that Guidders feeling we know so well — effort, yes, but with a smile and the right company.

The final push to the summit is the part you feel the most, but it’s also what makes everything more memorable. At the top of Monte Due Mani a spectacular sunset awaits us, with the light slowly fading over the mountains and setting aglow the outline of the Grigne, Valsassina, and the Lombardy landscapes all around us. It’s one of those moments when the effort stays in your legs, but all your eyes can see is beauty.

We’ll make our way back with the last light of evening and then through the woods, with headlamps on and the special atmosphere of evening hikes. A complete loop, intense and incredibly evocative, combining training, scenery, and that simple magic that happens when you walk together as day gives way to night.
