The Secret Lakes of Val Darengo: A 2-Day Trek Between Capanna Como and Bivacco Petazzi
Guiddy Difficulty Levels
Difficult Plus
Description
Two days away from the noise, in one of the most surprising valleys in the province of Como: Val Darengo. A loop that smells of woods and high altitude, with alpine lakes, panoramic passes and that sense of “good” isolation that puts your head back in order.
We start from Crotto Dangri and climb decisively towards Rifugio Capanna Como, overlooking Lake Darengo: the first day is a real climb, on a steep mule track and path in the woods, perfect for earning a sunset on the lake shore and a night in a refuge with an authentic mountain atmosphere.
On the second day the tour becomes even wilder: we pass the San Pio Pass, we venture into a more solitary environment and reach Lake Cavrig (or Lake of the Witches), a mysterious and beautiful corner, full of legends. After the pass of the same name, we touch the symbolic point of the trek: the Bivacco Petazzi at Lake Ledù, a high-altitude pearl that is worth the trip alone. Then we return, closing the loop and finding (only for a short stretch) the path of the outward journey.
It is a perfect trek for those looking for an intense weekend, postcard landscapes and that energy that only a night at altitude can give. And yes: you come back tired… but with that full smile that only the mountain can put on you.
