Trekking Mount Maggiorasca: Hike the most scenic ridge in the Ligurian Apennines!

From the village of Santo Stefano d’Aveto, we will ascend towards the summit of Monte Maggiorasca, the highest peak in the Ligurian Apennines. With the Guidders, we will traverse forests, panoramic ridges, and a striking rocky crest that leads to the summit. A complete trek amidst nature, open views, and a high-altitude atmosphere in the heart of the Aveto Regional Natural Park.

The trek starts from the village of Santo Stefano d’Aveto, the gateway to the Aveto Park. The initial sections of the path cross forests and alpine clearings, with a gradual ascent that allows you to calmly settle into the rhythm of the excursion.

We will reach the Passo della Lepre (Hare Pass), a panoramic point and important junction of the area's trails. From here, the landscape changes: the path becomes more alpine and develops along the crest of Monte Maggiorasca.

This is the most technical part of the trek. The ridge is rocky and exposed in some places, requiring a sure foot and attention, but also offering some of the most spectacular views of the Ligurian Apennines.

Upon reaching the summit of Monte Maggiorasca (1804 m), the reward is extraordinary: on clear days, the view sweeps from the Alps to the Po Valley and as far as the Ligurian Sea.

The descent will continue in a loop towards the Rocca del Prete (Priest's Rock), before returning to the Passo della Lepre and back to Santo Stefano d’Aveto along the path we took on the way up.
