The Triangolo Lariano ridge with a tent: Brunate to Bellagio in two days

Thirty-six kilometres of ridge above the lake, and a night under canvas halfway

The Dorsale del Triangolo Lariano is the crossing that runs south to north through the land between the two arms of Lake Como: you start at the Brunate funicular, climb onto the ridge and do not come down until Bellagio. Thirty-six kilometres, 2,240 metres of ascent and 2,690 of descent, almost always above a thousand metres, with the lake appearing first on one side and then the other.

The first day runs from Monte Boletto to Bolettone and then Palanzone, down to Pian del Tivano, where you sleep. The second climbs Monte San Primo, 1,652 metres, the highest summit of the Triangolo, and then drops two thousand metres to the lake.

We carry the tents

That is the difference. We set up the camp at Pian del Tivano ourselves: the tents travel by van, and you walk with a light pack — no tent, no sleeping mat, no pegs on your shoulders. In the evening everything is ready; in the morning we take it down.

Good to know

This is a demanding trek: the second day is twenty-one kilometres with two thousand metres of descent, and in October the light goes early. You need trained legs, proper boots and poles. The price includes the tent, the funicular from Como to Brunate and the hydrofoil back from Bellagio; meals are not included. Bring your own sleeping bag: October nights up there get close to freezing.
