Description

There's so much to say about Val d'Avio, both historically and from a naturalistic perspective. It was used by the Alpine soldiers of the army during the First World War to defend the front: the mule track that still exists today was used to carry the famous "Hippopotamus" cannon to one of the glacier peaks at 3300 meters altitude. During our itinerary, which will take us to the Garibaldi Refuge, one of the highest in the area, we will encounter Laghetto d'Avio, Lago d'Avio, Lago Benedetto and Lago Venerocolo near the refuge. From the refuge, we can observe the highest peaks of the group on the Brescia side, including the majestic north face of Mount Adamello, where there are several roped climbing routes to reach the summit. A must-do excursion, amidst breathtaking landscapes, ibex, historical tales, and unspoiled nature.

Alessio

From Vesuvius to Adamello, I'm always ready to hit the trail! Born in Naples, I've called Brescia home for years, where I find my happy place amongst the rocks and mountain paths every weekend. I love all kinds of hikes: from easygoing strolls to challenging treks for experienced hikers. My hiking journal is already packed with adventures... but I still have so many pages to fill with new trail buddies! I know the trails of Valtrompia like the back of my hand, and I have a real soft spot for the Adamello Natural Park, a corner of the world that never ceases to amaze me. 🎒 If you love hiking with a smile and want to be part of a close-knit group... then we'll get along great. See you on the trail, Guidders!
