Val di Fumo: Trentino's little Canada from Bissina

Val di Fumo is one of the most captivating corners of the Adamello Brenta Nature Park: a glacial valley with a flat floor, closed in by granite walls dropping sheer onto the meadows. Its resemblance to certain Canadian landscapes earned it the nickname it has always carried.

We start from Lago di Malga Bissina, a turquoise reservoir, and walk up the valley following the Chiese stream, among wildflowers, wooden footbridges and woods of larch and fir. The height gain is minimal: barely 200 metres over 12 kilometres, practically level.

At the head of the valley Rifugio Val di Fumo awaits, where we stop for lunch before returning along the same trail. This is the hike for anyone who wants high mountains without the effort of climbing.
